Green Water Filling Station in Kokapet
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is exploring the establishment of a Green Water Filling Station in Kokapet to promote the use of treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes.
PROPERTY PULSE
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) is taking steps to reduce the use of drinking water in Hyderabad by diverting treated wastewater for non-drinking purposes. As part of this initiative, the board is exploring the possibility of setting up a dedicated Green Water Filling Station in Kokapet.
The proposed facility is intended to supply treated wastewater for activities such as construction, industrial use, road cleaning, dust control, and park maintenance.
Special Focus on Water Quality
Water quality will be continuously monitored before treated water is supplied through the proposed Green Water Filling Station. As part of this process, officials inspected the water quality testing laboratory in Kokapet and reviewed testing procedures, quality standards, and the process for recording results.
Officials stressed the need to conduct regular tests in accordance with prescribed standards. They also called for coordinated efforts between the Water Board and the Telangana Pollution Control Board to ensure proper monitoring of water quality.

Test Results to Be Available Online
Water quality test results will be recorded online on a regular basis. A technological system is being planned to enable officials to monitor these details directly from the Water Board's headquarters. The IT department's support will be sought to develop this system. Making test results available transparently online will help authorities monitor water quality continuously and ensure greater accountability.
Water Supply Based on Tanker Capacity
The proposed filling station will have arrangements to fill tankers according to their capacity. The quantity of water supplied to each tanker will be recorded, and a control system will be introduced to prevent tankers from receiving more water than their designated capacity. Officials are also examining ways to divert any excess water to nearby lakes instead of allowing it to go to waste.
The Water Board plans to encourage the use of treated wastewater in construction activities, industries, road cleaning, dust control, parks, and gardens. Reducing the use of drinking water for these purposes could ease pressure on the city's drinking water resources. This is particularly important for Hyderabad, where water demand continues to grow.
The feasibility of setting up the Green Water Filling Station in Kokapet is currently being examined. If the proposal moves forward, it could help reserve drinking water for essential needs while providing an alternative water source for non-drinking purposes.
