Proposed 100-acre venue could add a major sports hub to Hyderabad’s growth corridor

Hyderabad’s Bharat Future City could get a new international sports landmark, with the Telangana government working on plans for a cricket stadium that could become the largest in the world by seating capacity.

The proposed venue is being planned on nearly 100 acres, with a capacity exceeding the 1.32 lakh seats at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, currently the world’s largest cricket stadium. If the proposal takes shape, Future City could add an international cricket venue to Hyderabad’s existing stadium infrastructure at Uppal.

The government is examining land parcels within Future City for the proposed stadium. Besides cricket, the venue is expected to have the potential to host football, other major sporting events, concerts and large international gatherings.

The project’s financing and operating structure, however, are yet to be finalised. Recent reports have indicated that the BCCI could potentially take responsibility for construction and operating costs, while the Telangana government may provide the land. A joint operating arrangement has also reportedly been discussed.

The final project cost, ownership structure, funding arrangement and development timeline have not yet been officially established.

Officials are reportedly examining suitable locations within Future City, with recent reports suggesting that the government is considering a foundation-stone ceremony in December 2026. The actual timing will depend on land identification, approvals and finalisation of the project structure.

The stadium proposal fits into Telangana’s broader effort to give Hyderabad a stronger sports identity. In 2025, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to explore an international sports architect for a comprehensive sports destination with facilities for cricket, football, golf and other sports.

In July 2026, the government also launched the Gachibowli Sports District and Young India Physical Education and Sports University. The State has additionally expressed interest in hosting sporting events if India bids for the 2036 Olympics.

For the property market, a stadium of this scale could have implications beyond match-day activity. Large sporting venues can generate demand for hotels, restaurants, retail, entertainment, serviced accommodation, offices and transport-related infrastructure in surrounding areas.

The effect, however, will depend heavily on the final location and connectivity. Entry and exit roads, public transport, metro access, parking, surrounding land use and supporting commercial development will determine whether the stadium becomes a sustained economic node.

Future City already has strategic connectivity through the Outer Ring Road and proximity to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, while proposed regional connectivity and future metro infrastructure could further strengthen accessibility.

The proposed stadium would therefore add another dimension to Future City’s emerging identity. Alongside plans for business, technology, healthcare, education, AI, data centres and other sectors, a major international sports venue could help position the area as a sports and entertainment destination as well as a business hub.

For real estate, the opportunity will become clearer only once the site, connectivity plan and project structure are formally confirmed.
