For Ekta Kapoor, Realty is Big Bro of Business
Veteran actor Jeetendra’s family illustrates a long-term approach to wealth creation.
PROPERTY PULSE
How did actor Jeetendra’s family build its wealth, and why did it turn to real estate despite its success in the entertainment industry? Television-Bollywood producer and Balaji Telefilms' promoter Ekta Kapoor has offered insight into the family's investment philosophy.
Speaking on The Ranveer Show podcast, released on October 10, Ekta Kapoor said that her father believed earning money was important, but saving and investing it wisely were equally essential.
She highlighted the vital role played by real estate in building long-term wealth by describing it as the "big brother" of all businesses.
Jeetendra's Modest Beginnings
Jeetendra grew up in a Mumbai chawl before building a successful film career and diversifying into business and investments. According to Ekta Kapoor, her father believed in saving a portion of his earnings rather than spending extravagantly, then investing in land, property and other opportunities.
The renowned producer revealed that Jeetendra entered real estate at around 65, thereby showing that age need not prevent people from exploring new opportunities. Now 84, he remains active in business.
Ekta Kapoor revealed that he invested early in data centres, anticipating the growth of digital services and cloud computing.
Further, she acknowledged that her father and brother Tusshar Kapoor had achieved better results in real estate than she had.

High-Value Property Transactions
Jeetendra bought a bungalow in Mumbai's Pali Hill in the 1980s for ₹4.25 lakh, along with 3,450 sq ft of land. Media reports estimate the property's current value at around ₹450 crore.
In May 2025, two companies belonging to the family sold 2.39 acres of land in Andheri to NTT Global Data Centres for ₹855 crore. The following month, Jeetendra and Ekta Kapoor sold a 2,149 sq ft apartment in Omkar 1973, Worli, for ₹12.25 crore.
In January 2026, a company associated with the NTT Group acquired a commercial property belonging to Jeetendra and Tusshar Kapoor for ₹559 crore.
Home as Security & Asset
Ekta Kapoor observed that owning a home offers stability while creating the potential for long-term appreciation. Comparing a house with gold jewellery, she suggested that both can serve a practical purpose while retaining value as assets.
She said she believes that property can provide financial security when other businesses face difficulties. She added that many wealthy people she knows in India have invested in real estate during their lives.
Her message to everyone: save consistently, invest thoughtfully, and consider property as one possible long-term wealth-building asset. Returns are not guaranteed, however, and property values depend on location, market conditions and the cost of ownership.
