A Jubilee Hills resident was fined ₹5,000 for using drinking water to clean house premises, after locals alerted the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) through its WhatsApp helpline. The incident was reported at Plot No.1152 on Road No. 57 in Jubilee Hills.

Acting on the complaint, the Water Board officials inspected the premises and confirmed that drinking water was being used for cleaning, following which they imposed the fine.

The action highlights the Water Board’s enforcement against the misuse of treated drinking water for avoidable purposes, particularly since water conservation remains a civic concern in Hyderabad’s residential areas. The Board warned that using drinking water to clean house premises and roads could attract penalties under the prescribed rules.

For apartment communities, gated layouts, and individual homeowners, the advisory serves as a reminder to avoid wasting treated water on activities that can be carried out using alternative sources where suitable.

HMWSSB asked citizens to report incidents of drinking water wastage by sharing photographs or videos, details of the individuals or establishments involved, and the complete address of the location.

Complaints can be sent to the Board’s WhatsApp number(99499 30003), or registered through its customer care helpline(155313).

The Board said it would examine complaints, conduct field inspections wherever necessary, and take action if violations were confirmed. It also assured complainants that their identities would be kept confidential.

HMWSSB also called on residents to help prevent water wastage and make conservation a shared responsibility.
