Finding a home involves more than choosing an apartment. Buyers also need to compare prices, locations, amenities and home loan options before making a decision. Bringing these choices under one roof, the 16th NAREDCO Telangana Property Show opened at HITEX Exhibition Centre on Friday, with over 500 projects on display for visitors.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka inaugurated the three-day exhibition, which will run until November 1.
Speaking at the inauguration, NAREDCO Telangana President Sreedhar Reddy Koppula highlighted the construction sector's role in creating jobs and supporting economic growth. Citing a KPMG report, he said the construction sector currently provides employment to around 7 crore people in the country, with the number expected to reach 10 crore. He added that the industry had recorded 10.7% growth in 2025-26 and was now growing at nearly double-digit rates.
Sreedhar Reddy also pointed to Hyderabad's office market as a driver of housing demand. The city recorded 13.1 million sq ft of office space activity, making it the second-largest market in the country, with 6.1 million sq ft coming from Global Capability Centres (GCCs). He noted that the new office developments also create demand for homes as employees move to the city.
Raising concerns over the rising cost of construction, Sreedhar Reddy urged the State Government to reduce GST on construction materials. He said project completion could take five to nine years and called for easier access to Category-II electricity permissions. He also sought a reduction in sewerage charges, which he said had increased from Rs 3 to Rs 8.
On commercial real estate, Sreedhar Reddy said developers were unable to claim input tax credit on GST paid on certain inputs and urged the government to take up the issue with the GST Council. He called for government support to help the construction industry manage rising costs and continue its contribution to Telangana's growth.
Responding to the industry's requests, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said the government recognised NAREDCO members as wealth creators and would consider the concerns raised by the sector.
Speaking about Hyderabad's development, Bhatti said the Outer Ring Road and the international airport had played a major role in the city's growth. He added that the upcoming projects, including the Regional Ring Road, Musi rejuvenation and Future City, would support the next phase of development.
Describing the Musi as a major future asset for Hyderabad, Vikramarka said the government wanted to develop the city as an environmentally friendly urban centre. He also referred to plans to promote electric vehicles.
The Deputy Chief Minister noted that Rs 84,790 crore had been earmarked for the city's development, while Rs 500 crore had been spent on development works. He said 20 sewage treatment plants were currently operational and that plans were in place to establish 38 STPs to improve the supply of treated water and reduce pressure on freshwater resources.
He also noted that the government had allocated Rs 4,000 crore to GHMC, Rs 2,500 crore to Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation and Rs 2,160 crore to Cyberabad Municipal Corporation for infrastructure and development works across the three civic regions
Meanwhile, Minister for SC, ST and Minority Welfare Adluri Laxman Kumar said housing should remain affordable for middle-class families. He urged the real estate industry to consider their needs while developing residential projects.
The exhibition will remain open on Saturday and Sunday, giving homebuyers and investors more time to visit the stalls, compare projects and discuss prices and financing options with developers and banks.
