From Budvel Interchange to Gachibowli Corridors: HMDA Rolls Out Flagship Projects

In a major step towards strengthening Hyderabad’s urban infrastructure and easing chronic traffic congestion, the Government of Telangana, through the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA), has accorded administrative sanctions for a series of flagship infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity, improving mobility, and supporting the city’s long-term growth.

These strategic interventions focus on seamless regional and intra-city connectivity, particularly across rapidly expanding corridors in the western and southern parts of Hyderabad, which have emerged as key residential, commercial, and IT hubs.

World-Class Trumpet Interchange at Budvel

One of the most significant projects approved is the construction of a new Trumpet Interchange at Budvel, connecting Radial Road–2 with the Outer Ring Road (ORR) at Km 143.000, along with improvements to the existing Rajendra Nagar Interchange. The administrative sanction was issued vide G.O.Rt.No.59, MA & UD (Plg.I(I)), dated 16.01.2026.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the project has been completed, and the work is currently at the tender stage. Designed to international standards, the interchange is envisioned as a landmark gateway to Hyderabad, offering multi-directional, signal-free connectivity to the Budvel Layout and the upcoming Musi Riverfront development.

The interchange will enable smooth traffic movement between Radial Road–2, ORR–Gachibowli, ORR–Shamshabad–Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, and Budvel, significantly reducing congestion and enhancing regional mobility. The project is estimated to cost ₹488 crore and will be funded through HMDA’s internal funds via Infrastructure Bonds.

Elevated Corridor–III: ICCC to Shilpa Layout

Building on its ongoing elevated corridor initiatives, the Telangana Government has also initiated the development of Elevated Corridor–III, connecting Banjara Hills ICCC to Shilpa Layout, providing direct, signal-free access to the ORR at Gachibowli. The project carries an estimated cost of ₹1,656 crore.

The corridor will be implemented in two phases:

  • Phase–I: Film Nagar to Shilpa Layout (5.00 km)

  • Phase–II: ICCC Tower to Hakimpet Kunta (4.00 km)

Once completed, the corridor will significantly decongest traffic by linking major activity nodes such as Banjara Hills, Film Nagar, Narne Road, ITC Kohenur Road, T-Hub, and Shilpa Layout, thereby improving connectivity across the Raidurg–HITEC City region. It will serve as an alternative parallel route to the existing Mehdipatnam–Gachibowli radial road, reducing traffic conflicts, improving road safety, and enhancing urban mobility.

The project includes a combination of 4-lane and 6-lane configurations, with both elevated and at-grade sections, and will feature six entry and exit points at key intersections including Road No. 82 (Film Nagar), Narne Road, Road No. 52, ITC Kohenur Road, T-Hub Junction, and Auro Realty Junction.

A portion of the alignment passes through Defence-owned land for about 1 km, for which necessary permissions and clearances have already been sought. Like the Budvel Interchange, this project will also be funded through HMDA Infrastructure Bonds.

Pipeline Road Widening from MGIT to Manikonda

To further address traffic congestion in fast-growing areas such as Kokapet, Manikonda, Gandipet, Puppalguda, and Narsingi, the Government has sanctioned the widening and strengthening of the Pipeline Road from Shankarpally Road at MGIT to Manikonda, covering a length of 3.57 km.

The project, undertaken by HGCL, has received administrative sanction of ₹110 crore vide G.O.Rt.No.71 (MA&UD Plg.I(1)), dated 19.01.2026. The proposed development includes a 6-lane carriageway with a 10-metre median, provision for a heritage channel, drain-cum-footpaths on both sides, culverts, minor bridges, junction improvements, and landscaping works. Tenders are expected to be floated shortly through the e-procurement platform.

ORR Widening from Nanakramguda to Gachibowli

In another targeted intervention, the Government has approved the widening of the left main carriageway of the ORR from Nanakramguda to Gachibowli to address severe congestion near flyover approaches at Gachibowli Junction.

Currently, the stretch operates with three lanes on either side without service roads, and the flyovers towards Kondapur and Shilpa Layout create a major bottleneck. To meet increasing traffic demand, HGCL has proposed widening the left carriageway from three lanes to four lanes.

The project has received administrative sanction of ₹26.50 crore vide G.O.Rt.No.69 (MA&UD Plg.I(1)), dated 19.01.2026. Tenders will be floated on 27.01.2026, with the last date for submission on 09.02.2026.

With these large-scale interventions, the Telangana Government and HMDA are reinforcing Hyderabad’s position as a future-ready global city. The projects are expected to significantly reduce travel times, improve road safety, unlock development potential across growth corridors, and support sustainable urban expansion in the years ahead.
