Water board fines Jubilee Hills consumer Rs 20,000 for water misuse in floor cleaning

Using drinking water to clean floors has landed a Jubilee Hills consumer with a Rs 20,000 fine, as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) intensifies enforcement against the misuse of potable water for non-essential purposes.

The violation was identified at Road No. 23, Jubilee Hills, where officials found consumer Poornima (CAN No. 061108905) using potable water for floor cleaning. The water board imposed and collected a penalty of Rs 20,000 from the consumer.

The latest action is part of the board’s efforts to curb the misuse and wastage of potable water across the city. HMWSSB urged consumers to use drinking water responsibly and avoid using it for purposes where alternative water sources can be used.

Consumers were advised to use potable water responsibly, with the board stating that misuse for other purposes would invite action as per the applicable rules. The enforcement focus also covers responsible use of water supplied to residential properties and other consumer premises.

For apartment communities, gated developments and individual residences, responsible water use remains important as demand for municipal water continues across the city. The board has urged residents to avoid wastage and ensure that potable water is used only for appropriate domestic requirements.

HMWSSB has also asked residents to report instances of drinking water misuse by sharing the relevant details through its WhatsApp number +91 99499 30003, enabling officials to identify such cases and take necessary action under the applicable regulations.
