MMC Flags 176 Pothole Spots, 127 Encroachments at Coordination Meeting; Focuses on 6 Major Infra Projects
The civic body reviews road safety, traffic flow and infrastructure priorities across key stretches, focusing on repairs, encroachment removal and congestion relief.
Road safety, traffic congestion and infrastructure gaps across Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) limits came under review at a coordination meeting between civic and police authorities, with officials focusing on potholes, encroachments, waterlogging, free-left improvements and major road projects.
MMC Commissioner T. Vinay Krishna Reddy and Malkajgiri Police Commissioner Sumathi, alongside senior officials from TGSPDCL, HMWSSB, HYDRAA, HGCL, Hyderabad Cantonment Board and other civic departments, reviewed road, traffic and infrastructure issues at the meeting.
The meeting focused on six major infrastructure projects aimed at easing traffic congestion, including grade separators at Uppal Junction, alternative roads around AOC Centre, a six-lane two-way flyover between TKR College, Gayathrinagar and Manda Mallaiah Junctions, the R.K. Puram Railway Over Bridge (ROB), rehabilitation of the Ramakrishnapuram ROB and Koh-e-Moulali Road/ramp works at Moulali. Four of the projects are physically progressing, while the R.K. Puram ROB requires a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and the Ramakrishnapuram ROB rehabilitation requires traffic closure.
Officials identified 176 pothole or damaged-road locations, of which 171 fall within MMC limits. Of these, 77 were classified as Major, including 66 in Zone-I. Authorities directed officials to prioritise patchwork and road repairs and jointly verify completion with traffic police.
The meeting also reviewed 24 Free Left proposals intended to reduce congestion at signal junctions. Six are located within the Uppal Traffic Police Station limits, covering locations such as Uppal X Roads, Habsiguda X Roads, Survey of India and Snehapuri Junction. Signal waiting time, road width and junction capacity were among the factors considered.
In Uppal Zone, 98 road safety works identified jointly with traffic police were reviewed. These include 45 junction markings and traffic-calming measures, relocation of 11 electricity poles, removal of 10 encroachments, tree-branch removal at nine locations and street lighting at seven locations. Field verification has been completed at all 98 locations.
Waterlogging was another key concern, with 188 points identified across the corporation and permanent solutions yet to be finalised for 90 locations. Officials were directed to prioritise desilting of nalas and stormwater drains and coordinate these works with ongoing nala development.
The meeting also reviewed 127 pending encroachments across six major road stretches and called for coordination among civic, traffic and police departments for their removal.
