CoRWA Seeks Nitin Gadkari’s Intervention Over Delayed NH-44 Secunderabad–Medchal Works
Thousands of commuters travelling daily on the Secunderabad–Medchal stretch of National Highway-44 are facing severe inconvenience due to incomplete, abandoned and prolonged delays in flyover construction and road-widening works, prompting the Confederation of RWAs (CoRWA) to seek urgent intervention from the Union government.
In a formal representation addressed to Nitin Jairam Gadkari, Hon’ble Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, CoRWA highlighted the growing commuter hardship on this critical arterial corridor connecting Hyderabad with Nagpur and northern India.
The petition has been submitted by Col Tejendra Pal Tyagi (Retd), Vir Chakra, National President of CoRWA, and B.T. Srinivasan, National Secretary General, CoRWA, on behalf of resident welfare associations across the country.
According to CoRWA, the ongoing condition of the highway has doubled travel time, with the usual one-hour commute now stretching to two hours or more during peak traffic hours. Office-goers, students, goods transporters and long-distance travellers are the worst affected due to damaged road surfaces, barricading, frequent diversions and unfinished flyover structures.
Several stretches of NH-44 between Secunderabad and Medchal are reported to be in poor and unsafe condition, marked by potholes, uneven carriageways, sudden lane drops and inadequate traffic management, leading to frequent traffic jams, vehicle breakdowns and a rising risk of accidents.
CoRWA has also raised concern over the lack of visible construction activity at multiple locations. While long sections of the highway remain dug up on both sides for flyover works, there has been little progress on piers, decks or service roads for months, creating a perception that the contractor has effectively abandoned the project.
While appreciating the unprecedented pace of national highway development achieved under the leadership of Shri Nitin Gadkari, CoRWA has urged the Union Minister—known for his efficiency, innovation and time-bound execution—to personally review the status of the NH-44 Secunderabad–Medchal project.
The organisation has requested the Ministry to issue urgent directions to the concerned authorities and contractors to restore motorable road conditions, ensure proper lane management, enhance safety measures and expedite completion of the stalled works.
With Hyderabad’s traffic volumes increasing rapidly, CoRWA emphasised that timely completion of critical highway projects is essential not only to ease daily commuter suffering but also to support the city’s economic activity and regional connectivity.
