The Telangana government has identified eight major tourism hubs for development as part of a broader strategy to position tourism as a driver of economic growth, employment generation and regional development.
The initiative forms a key component of the state's new tourism policy, which aims to move beyond traditional sightseeing and create destination-based experiences capable of attracting domestic and international visitors.
Officials say the focus will be on integrating heritage, spirituality, eco-tourism, water tourism, tribal culture and adventure activities while strengthening tourism infrastructure across the state.
The first phase covers eight locations representing different tourism themes.
Vikarabad has been identified as a nature and eco-tourism destination centred around Ananthagiri Hills and its forest ecosystem. The Somasila-Alampur belt is expected to be developed as a water tourism hub leveraging the Krishna River backwaters.
Warangal-Ramappa will continue to anchor Telangana's heritage tourism strategy, supported by the global recognition received after the Ramappa Temple was accorded UNESCO World Heritage status.
Nagarjuna Sagar, one of the country's largest reservoirs, is expected to see additional investments in tourism infrastructure and recreational facilities.
The Yadadri-Pochampally circuit will combine spiritual tourism with Telangana's handloom and cultural heritage, while the Adilabad cluster is being positioned around tribal culture, forests, waterfalls and eco-tourism experiences.
Bhadrachalam and Kaleshwaram will focus on spiritual tourism, riverfront development and pilgrim infrastructure, with an emphasis on improving visitor facilities and extending tourist stay duration.
Industry observers note that tourism is increasingly being viewed not merely as a hospitality sector but as an economic multiplier capable of generating employment across transportation, retail, handicrafts, food services and local enterprises.
The government is also exploring modern tourism concepts such as skywalks, viewing decks, adventure activities, destination weddings and river-based tourism to diversify visitor experiences.
Officials believe the hub-based development model can help distribute tourism benefits beyond Hyderabad while creating new opportunities in rural and semi-urban regions. The initiative could strengthen Telangana's position in India's tourism landscape while creating new avenues for investment, employment and local economic development.
