HYDRAA, CMC Review Monsoon Preparedness; Focus on Drainage and Flood Mitigation
Monsoon readiness measures were reviewed across Cyberabad with a focus on drainage systems, desilting operations and coordinated flood mitigation efforts to reduce waterlogging risks during heavy rains.
Drainage works, desilting progress and site-specific flood mitigation measures have been stepped up across Cyberabad as part of monsoon preparedness efforts aimed at reducing waterlogging risks and ensuring smooth urban drainage during heavy rains.
A comprehensive monsoon preparedness review meeting was held jointly at the HYDRAA office, attended by HYDRAA Commissioner AV Ranganath and Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner G. Srijana. The meeting brought together senior officials from HYDRAA, CMC, Cyberabad Police, HMWS&SB, Irrigation, Electricity Department and DRF teams.
The Commissioners reviewed waterlogging-prone areas, stormwater drain networks and ongoing mitigation works across Cyberabad. CMC engineering officials were directed to speed up desilting works, remove blockages in drains and ensure free flow of rainwater in key areas.
HMWS&SB officials presented updates on water supply and sewerage systems. Irrigation Department officials reviewed lakes, nalas and outlets to ensure proper discharge of excess water and prevent overflow during heavy rains. Electricity Department officials outlined measures to manage possible disruptions during adverse weather conditions.
Cyberabad Police officials reviewed traffic management plans, including diversion routes and emergency response arrangements in flood-prone areas. DRF teams briefed on readiness of pumps, manpower and equipment to respond quickly to waterlogging incidents.
The Commissioners instructed all departments to maintain round-the-clock readiness and strengthen coordination during the monsoon period. They also stressed the need for better communication between departments and close monitoring of vulnerable locations.
Officials said desilting works within CMC limits have been largely completed, while remaining works are being tracked through regular field inspections.
In a parallel field inspection, CMC Commissioner G. Srijana and Cyberabad Police Commissioner Ramesh, along with officials from both departments, visited key flood-prone locations including Malkam Cheruvu, the Khajaguda Lake area near the State Election Commission building, the Hyderabad Central University surroundings, and Kondapur near the Harsha Toyota showroom.
Commissioner G. Srijana directed field engineers and zonal officials to expedite pending drainage works, strengthen desilting activity and ensure immediate action at identified waterlogging-prone locations. She also stressed the need for continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and close coordination among all departments during the monsoon period.
Cyberabad Police assured full support in traffic regulation, emergency coordination and public safety management during heavy rainfall events.
