EV Infrastructure Gets 369-Station Push Across Telangana

Telangana is set to expand its public electric vehicle charging network with 369 new charging stations, giving a major push to EV infrastructure across the state. The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TG-REDCO) has invited private Charge Point Operators (CPOs) to develop, operate and maintain the stations, including 200 in Hyderabad and 169 across areas under TGNPDCL.

The Hyderabad project will cover the Greater Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Malkajgiri municipal areas, with the 200 stations divided into six clusters. Selected private operators will get 10-year contracts to operate, maintain, upgrade and commercially manage the charging stations.

The expansion comes as the number of electric vehicles grows across Telangana, creating greater demand for convenient public charging facilities. The state currently ranks fourth in India in electricity consumption by EV charging stations, according to TG-REDCO.

TG REDCO Vice Chairman and Managing Director Musharraf Faruqui, said Telangana’s location along national highways and major transport corridors gives the state an advantage as EV adoption expands. Urbanisation and growing dependence on personal vehicles are also driving demand for electric mobility.

The new charging network is expected to create opportunities for private companies beyond the operation of charging points. These include equipment installation and maintenance, infrastructure upgrades, EV fleet operations, servicing, battery-related services and digital charging platforms.

Under the TGNPDCL project, 169 charging stations will come up at 16 locations covering the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Khammam, Karimnagar, Nizamabad and Adilabad. The selected operators will handle the survey, design, supply, civil works, installation, testing and commissioning of the stations, followed by 10 years of operation and maintenance.

Eligible bidders for the TGNPDCL project can also receive subsidy under the PM E-DRIVE scheme, subject to the applicable conditions.

For both projects, the consumer charging tariff has been fixed at ₹13 per unit plus GST and will remain unchanged during the 10-year contract period. For the Hyderabad project, operators will also have to maintain a minimum 95% uptime for the chargers.

The projects are aimed at expanding charging access for EV users while creating long-term business opportunities for private operators as electric mobility gains ground in the state.

The pre-bid meeting for the 169-station project will be held on September 7 at 11:30 am, while the meeting for the 200-station Hyderabad project will be held at 11 am on the same day. Bid submission will begin on September 8 and close on September 22 through the Telangana e-Procurement Portal.
