Hyderabad’s growing role in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem received another boost after Sigma Advanced Systems secured an export order worth USD 11.4 million (around ₹107 crore) from a North American customer.

The order involves supply of 90,000 filled fuzes for 155 mm artillery shells, with execution scheduled over a ten-month period.

According to the company, manufacturing will be carried out in India through its in-house capabilities in compliance with defence export regulations.

The order relates to Point Detonating M557 Filled Fuzes, a critical component used in 155 mm artillery ammunition systems.

Industry observers say the development reflects Hyderabad’s expanding presence in aerospace and defence manufacturing, supported by increasing investments, precision engineering capabilities and defence-sector supply chains emerging across Telangana.

Sigma Advanced Systems said the export engagement marks a significant milestone as the company expands beyond domestic defence partnerships into direct international contracts.

Commenting on the development, Sunil Kalidindi, chief executive officer and executive director, Sigma Advanced Systems, said the order reflects growing global confidence in Indian defence manufacturing capabilities and strengthens the company’s international presence.

The company stated that the order also has the potential to open opportunities for additional follow-on contracts from the same customer.

Sigma Advanced Systems operates across aerospace and defence manufacturing segments and works with global OEMs through long-term supply agreements.

The latest export order comes at a time when India is witnessing increasing focus on indigenous defence production and expansion of export-oriented manufacturing capabilities.

Industry experts note that Hyderabad is gradually emerging as an important hub for aerospace, defence electronics, precision manufacturing and ammunition component supply within India’s broader defence manufacturing ecosystem.
