Uddandapur proposal may boost growth across South Hyderabad corridor

Property Pulse

The Telangana government is examining an alternative water supply plan for Future City, with officials proposing that water be sourced from the Uddandapur Reservoir under the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme. The proposal, reviewed at a recent high-level meeting, is expected to be placed before the State Cabinet for approval.

The move comes after the government decided against an earlier proposal to draw water from Himayatsagar Reservoir. Officials concluded that Himayatsagar should continue to be reserved to meet Hyderabad's long-term drinking water requirements. As a result, a revised plan centred on the Uddandapur Reservoir has been prepared to ensure sustainable water availability for Future City and adjoining industrial zones.

For the real estate sector, the proposal is being viewed as a significant infrastructure milestone. Industry experts note that assured water supply is a key factor influencing investment decisions, alongside transport connectivity, power availability and civic infrastructure. A permanent water source could strengthen investor confidence and support long-term development in South Hyderabad.

The proposed network is expected to benefit not only Future City but also the industrial hubs of Chandanvelly and Seetharampur. Officials have also indicated that the scheme would provide water to 1,331 villages and nine urban local bodies across the constituencies of Shadnagar, Chevella, Vikarabad, Pargi and Tandur. The broader plan includes a regional distribution network supported by reservoirs such as Singur, Vattem, Sangambanda and Karivena.

Future City is being developed as a major hub for IT, artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing. Reliable water infrastructure is considered essential for attracting industries, supporting residential development and enabling integrated townships and commercial projects around the emerging growth corridor. The proposal is currently under government consideration.

The project could enhance the investment appeal of the Chandanvelly–Seetharampur–Shadnagar corridor and reinforce South Hyderabad's position as one of the region's fastest-growing real estate destinations.
