CMC Reclaims 32 km of Footpaths, Removes 697 Encroachments Under 'Walk Free' Drive

In a major push to reclaim public spaces and improve pedestrian infrastructure, the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation conducted a special 'Walk Free' footpath encroachment removal drive across all three zones, removing a total of nearly 700 encroachments from key arterial roads.

Conducted under the supervision of Commissioner G. Srijana and the Zonal Commissioners, the campaign focused on restoring unobstructed footpaths, enhancing pedestrian safety and ensuring public walkways remain accessible amid Cyberabad's rapid urban growth.

The drive covered 17 road stretches spanning 32.35 km, during which officials removed 697 encroachments from footpaths across Serilingampally, Kukatpally and Quthbullapur zones.

The Serilingampally Zone recorded the highest coverage, with officials clearing 292 encroachments along 18 km of roads, including Narsingi Pipe Line Road, Radial Road-30 in Tellapur, Beeramguda Main Road, Miyapur–Chandanagar NH-65 and Botanical Garden Road.

In the Kukatpally Zone, the drive covered 5.9 km across four road stretches, including HUDA Mayuri Road in Madhapur, Pipe Line Road in Allwyn Colony, BSNL Lane in Kukatpally and Don Bosco Road and P.R. Nagar Road in Moosapet, resulting in the removal of 140 encroachments.

The Quthbullapur Zone saw 265 encroachments cleared across 8.45 km, covering major corridors such as Ranga Nagar Main Road, Jagathgirigutta Main Road, Suchitra X Road, Quthbullapur X Road, Devender Nagar Road, Pragathi Nagar Road, the ORR Service Road at Dundigal and Medchal Main Road.

The operation was led by Deputy Commissioners, with Town Planning teams working in coordination with the Police Department across all circles to remove obstructions from public walkways.

Meanwhile, Commissioner G. Srijana said the 'Walk Free' initiative will continue in phases to ensure footpaths remain safe, accessible and free from encroachments. She noted that the campaign is intended to improve walkability, enhance road safety and create more organised streetscapes across the rapidly expanding Cyberabad region.
