Govt explores pod transport for last-mile connectivity System proposed to ease congestion in key IT corridors
Hyderabad explores pod transport (PRT) to improve last-mile connectivity in IT corridors like Hitec City and Financial District. Discover how smart mobility projects boost Hyderabad real estate and urban infrastructure.
Hyderabad is exploring pod transport as a solution to address last-mile connectivity gaps in high-density commercial areas, according to reports. The proposed system, technically known as Personal Rapid Transit (PRT), is being considered for some of the city’s busiest corridors.
The network is expected to connect key locations such as the State Secretariat, Knowledge City, Raidurg and Hitec City metro stations, the Financial District and the Raidurg–Kukatpally stretch. These areas form the core of the city’s IT and business ecosystem, where traffic congestion and limited last-mile options remain major concerns.
The pod-based system is aimed at improving integration with existing transport modes, including metro rail and road networks, while offering a faster and more efficient option for short-distance travel.
According to reports, three firms have submitted bids to undertake a techno-economic feasibility study. The study will assess route alignments, technology options and financial viability under a public-private partnership model.
The proposal is currently at an initial stage, with technical evaluations underway.
