Telangana Reinforces Smart, Green & Net-Zero Vision at IGBC Green Telangana Summit 2026

Telangana strengthened its push towards smart, green and net-zero urban development at the 2nd edition of the IGBC Green Telangana Summit 2026 organised by the CII Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) in Hyderabad on Thursday.

The summit brought together policymakers, industry leaders, architects, urban planners and sustainability experts to discuss strategies for building a low-carbon, climate-resilient built environment in the state.

Speaking at the summit, Matt Meyer, Governor of Delaware (USA), appreciated India’s efforts in green and net-zero buildings and emphasised the need for global collaboration to address climate change. He said initiatives in Hyderabad and Telangana reflect forward-looking leadership in sustainable urban development.

C. Shekar Reddy, National Chairman, IGBC, said Telangana has emerged as a major contributor to India’s green building movement. The state currently has over 1,245 IGBC-registered projects covering 1.67 billion sq ft, including commercial, residential, logistics and net-zero developments. Globally, India now has more than 19,000 IGBC-registered projects with 15.74 billion sq ft of green building footprint, making it the second-largest green building footprint in the world, he said.

Bill McQuade, President of ASHRAE, said Telangana’s progress demonstrates how policy support, industry commitment and technology innovation can accelerate the transition towards sustainable and energy-efficient buildings.

During the summit, a Telangana Coffee Table Book featuring 40+ iconic IGBC-certified green and net-zero projects was unveiled. Experts also discussed global pathways to smart and net-zero cities, climate-responsive urban planning, and the role of technology and policy frameworks in achieving sustainable urban growth.

The event concluded with the IGBC Green Crusaders recognition, where 47 projects covering 46.3 million sq ft of green building footprint were honoured for adopting sustainable construction practices. The summit reaffirmed Telangana’s growing leadership in green buildings and sustainable urban development in India.
