HYDRA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited the site of the seven-storey building collapse in Anjaiah Nagar on Saturday afternoon. He personally inspected the collapsed structure. Local residents said the building collapsed because it was constructed on a 50-square-yard plot next to a nala, with seven floors being built on the site.

According to reports, two workers who were installing tiles inside the under-construction building died in the incident. Locals said the roof of the collapsing building fell onto a neighbouring structure, leaving some residents in a critical condition.

What Needs to Be Done?

Initially, the two buildings adjacent to the collapsed structure should be evacuated. The debris from the collapsed building should be cleared immediately, and the remaining structure should be completely demolished. Locals also demanded strict action against town-planning officials and enforcement staff who allegedly failed to act despite such a large construction taking place. They said accountability is essential to prevent similar illegal constructions in the future.
