Hyderabad Plans Rail Connectivity Along Musi River; Emaar Shows Interest
Moosi Riverfront redevelopment in Hyderabad may see metro or mono rail and a mega township by Emaar. Project aims to transform Hyderabad real estate by 2026.
The Telangana government is moving swiftly to advance the Musi River Rejuvenation Project within the Hyderabad metropolitan limits. With a vision to develop the riverfront on the lines of London and Seoul, the Revanth Reddy-led government is preparing a comprehensive plan with an estimated investment of around ₹4,000 crore.
The government has already decided to undertake the development of Bapu Ghat under the proposed ‘Gandhi Sarovar’ project. As part of the broader plan, the construction of 17 new flyovers across the Musi River and the development of a dedicated rail corridor along the riverbank are under consideration. However, clarity is yet to emerge on whether the project will feature a mono rail or an expanded metro rail system. If all plans are finalized in line with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s vision, the government is aiming to formally launch the Musi Rejuvenation Project by Ugadi in March 2026.
Meanwhile, Dubai-based real estate giant Emaar Properties has reportedly expressed interest in executing the Musi riverfront beautification works. However, an official decision from the Telangana government is still awaited. Emaar Properties, which developed iconic projects such as the Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai, has proposed the development of a large integrated township along the Musi riverfront. Subject to government approvals, the project could significantly transform Hyderabad’s skyline.
According to sources, Emaar is exploring the development of a large-scale integrated township spread across hundreds of acres near the Rajendranagar Outer Ring Road Exit No. 17 along the Musi River. The proposal includes residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
Recently, during the Global Summit organised by the Telangana government at Future City, the Emaar Group showcased preliminary concept designs at a dedicated stall. Officials clarified that the proposal is currently at a conceptual stage and awaits formal approvals, with more clarity expected soon.
