CMC to Get Five Dedicated Rest Stops for Delivery and Mobility Workers
Amazon India will fund and maintain the facilities, which will offer free rest spaces and basic amenities for app-based workers across the CMC area.
As Hyderabad's gig economy continues to expand alongside its growing residential and commercial hubs, dedicated rest stops for delivery and mobility workers are set to come up at five locations across the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) area under a public-private partnership with Amazon India.
The initiative, titled Project Ashray, will see the establishment of porta cabin rest stops at Kondapur, Tellapur, Patancheru, Bharathi Nagar and Chandanagar. The facilities are intended to provide gig workers with dedicated spaces to rest, refresh and access basic amenities during their working hours.
The project will be implemented under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between CMC's Serilingampally Zone and Amazon India as part of the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme. The MoU was signed in the presence of Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD), and Dr G. Srijana, Commissioner, Cyberabad Municipal Corporation, along with the Serilingampally Zonal Commissioner.
According to the Corporation, Amazon India will bear the entire cost of establishing and maintaining the rest stops. The facilities will be available free of charge to gig workers across all delivery and service platforms.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr G. Srijana said gig workers are an integral part of Hyderabad's evolving urban ecosystem and that Project Ashray aims to provide them with safe and accessible places to rest while on duty.
She also noted that the initiative reflects the Corporation's commitment to building a more inclusive and worker-friendly Cyberabad through partnerships and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
