Railway Ministry to Finalise Three Bullet Train Corridor Routes Before Land Acquisition
The proposed HSR corridors include Hyderabad–Chennai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, and Hyderabad–Pune.

Hyderabad is proposed to be a key junction in India’s high-speed rail (HSR) expansion, with three corridors planned to connect the city with Chennai, Bengaluru, and Pune. The Railway Ministry is examining the routes, with land acquisition to begin only after the alignments are finalised.
Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy and Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw discussed the proposals, including the status of route studies, land acquisition costs, and the next steps in the projects.
Kishan Reddy said the Railway Ministry has clarified that studies on the proposed corridors are still underway and formal land acquisition proposals have not yet been sent to the state governments. Interestingly, acquiring land before finalising the routes would be contrary to prescribed procedures.

Hyderabad-Pune HSR
A notable development is the Hyderabad–Pune HSR corridor in place of the Hyderabad–Mumbai link. The Union Budget for 2026–27 announced seven high-speed rail corridors, including Hyderabad–Chennai, Hyderabad–Bengaluru, and Hyderabad–Pune.
Once developed, the proposed connections could strengthen Hyderabad's links with the three major economic centres and improve inter-city travel. However, the announcement does not mean that construction is ready to begin.
The final alignments, land requirements, acquisition schedules, and construction commencement dates remain undecided. The Railway Ministry said it will share the details with state governments and landowners after the routes are finalised.
For landowners along the potential corridors, the next significant development will be the publication of the final alignments. Until then, the precise locations affected by the proposed projects remain uncertain.
The route-finalisation process will determine the land required, project costs, and subsequent implementation schedule.
Hyderabad's proposed role as a high-speed rail hub will therefore depend on how the studies progress and when the corridors move from planning to execution.
