CMC Eyes New Road Links Across Lingampally–Borabanda MMTS Line

Connectivity between Hyderabad’s western residential and commercial corridors could see fresh options as the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) examines new road links across the Lingampally–Borabanda MMTS railway line.

CMC Commissioner G Srijana, along with the Kukatpally Zonal Commissioner, CPO, HMDA officials, CMC Chief Engineer, engineering officials and consultants, conducted a field visit to assess possible connectivity improvements between the HKC, Financial District and Kokapet areas and Kukatpally, Nizampet and Mayuri Nagar.

The review comes as traffic movement between these growing urban areas continues to depend on a limited number of road and railway crossings. The officials examined whether additional links could improve connectivity and provide alternative routes for commuters travelling between the western business districts and established residential areas.

One of the options examined was the development of new elevated corridors-cum-road over bridges towards Miyapur Metro Station and Mayuri Nagar. Such links could provide additional crossings over the railway line and improve access to the surrounding residential and commercial areas.

The team also examined a possible connection from Shilpa Layout towards JNTU Metro Station and Nizampet X Roads. The proposal includes the possibility of an underpass, depending on the feasibility of the alignment and the conditions at the site.

Existing road crossings were also part of the review. The Hafeezpet and Kukatpally road over bridges are being examined for widening from four lanes to six lanes. The move could provide additional road capacity on two important crossings that connect areas on either side of the railway line.

Another proposal involves improving connectivity from Khaithalapur RoB to Kukatpally Highway through GOCL Road. The officials also reviewed a road-widening option from NIA Junction near Yashoda Hospital towards Kondapur through the Hitex–Mundikunta stretch.

During the field visit, officials assessed existing road conditions, available space, traffic movement and the practical requirements for each proposed connection. The site-level assessment is expected to help CMC determine which options can be taken forward based on ground conditions and feasibility.

CMC Commissioner G Srijana said further action would be taken after a detailed examination of the feasibility and requirements of the proposed works. The proposals are currently at the assessment stage and do not yet represent approved road projects.
