Casa Grand Sierra Project Faces Criminal Case Over Alleged Kothinar Lake Bund Damage

A controversy has erupted in Dundigal Mandal after allegations surfaced that a portion of the Kothinar Lake bund was damaged to facilitate the construction of an access road for the Casa Grand Sierra real estate project. Following complaints from local residents, officials from the Revenue and Irrigation Departments conducted a joint survey to examine the matter.

According to sources, the survey conducted on June 1 identified activities within the lake bund area that may have violated regulations intended to protect water bodies. Based on the findings submitted by the departments, a complaint was lodged with the Dundigal Police Station, following which a criminal case was registered against the concerned parties.

Residents have alleged that a section of the lake bund was altered or removed for the project’s approach road, raising concerns over the lake’s structural stability, especially during the monsoon season. As per existing regulations, construction activities are restricted within designated buffer and protection zones around lakes and water bodies. Authorities are examining whether the applicable norms were violated in this case.

Residents have also questioned the delay in submitting the survey report, stating that the process took longer than expected after the June 1 inspection. Officials, however, maintained that the report was submitted after a detailed examination of all relevant aspects.

Authorities have stated that they will assess the extent of the alleged damage and undertake restoration measures if required. Further legal action will be based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation. Officials maintained that violations affecting public water bodies would be dealt with as per the law to protect Kothinar Lake, a key water resource for the surrounding area.
