The Hyderabad Growth Corridor Limited (HGCL) is taking up widening works on a key stretch of the Outer Ring Road between Nanakramguda and Gachibowli in an effort to improve traffic movement through one of Hyderabad's busiest commercial corridors.

The project will cover approximately 1.75 kilometres of the Left Main Carriageway and is estimated to cost ₹26.50 crore.

The proposed works include the addition of an extra lane, widening of vehicular underpasses and culverts, and improvements at key traffic junctions along the corridor. Administrative approval has already been granted and the work has been awarded to M/s Sudhakara Infratech Private Limited.

The project comes at a time when traffic volumes in the Financial District-Gachibowli corridor continue to rise due to the expansion of IT parks, Global Capability Centres, commercial office developments and residential communities.

Over the past decade, Gachibowli, Nanakramguda and the Financial District have emerged as some of Hyderabad's most important employment hubs. Daily commuter movement has increased significantly, creating pressure on road infrastructure despite the presence of the ORR.

Officials believe the additional lane and associated improvements will help reduce bottlenecks and improve traffic flow, particularly during peak office hours.

The widening exercise also reflects a broader challenge facing Hyderabad's infrastructure planners. While the city continues to attract investments and employment opportunities, transportation networks must keep pace with increasing demand from both residents and businesses.

Industry experts note that even relatively small interventions at critical bottlenecks can significantly improve travel efficiency and commuter experience when implemented in high-density traffic corridors.

Once completed, the widening project is expected to strengthen connectivity between Gachibowli, Nanakramguda, Kokapet and the Financial District while improving access to the wider ORR network.

The corridor is expected to remain a major focus area for future transportation upgrades as commercial development continues across Hyderabad's western growth belt.
