New Rental Scam Emerges in Bengaluru

Cybercriminals have devised a new rental scam targeting tenants in Bengaluru. Fraudsters post attractive listings on real estate platforms, offering fully furnished 2BHK apartments for ₹15,000 per month—a price that appears highly appealing in the city.
Once contacted, the fraudster—posing as the owner—claims the property is in a gated community and requests ID proof and photographs to generate a “security entry pass.” Victims are then asked to pay a ₹2,500 refundable deposit. Once the money is transferred, the scammer disappears. Netizens have warned that such scams not only result in financial loss but also risk misuse of personal identity documents. Social media users have noted a sharp rise in similar frauds and urged the public to remain vigilant.
