New Rental Scam in Bengaluru
A new rental scam in Bengaluru targets tenants with fake low-rent 2BHK ads. Cybercriminals collect deposits and IDs before disappearing.
Cybercriminals involved in various online frauds have now devised a new rental scam targeting tenants. A Bengaluru netizen who uncovered the scam warned people to be cautious.
Scammers post ads on real estate platforms offering a fully furnished 2BHK apartment with all amenities for just ₹15,000 per month. Considering Bengaluru’s high rents, many think it is a genuine deal and call the number provided.
Posing as the owner, the scammer says it is a gated community, and for security clearance, an entry ID card must be generated in advance. They ask for a government ID card and photo and request a refundable ₹2,500 deposit to generate the pass.
Once the money is transferred, the scammer disappears. People not only lose money but also risk misuse of their ID and photos. Many social media users responded saying such scams have increased recently. The warning urges tenants to remain cautious.
