The Telangana government is gearing up to launch the Moosi River rejuvenation project and has fixed an auspicious date for the commencement of works. According to official sources, Moosi cleaning and revival works will begin by Ugadi 2026.

On the Telugu New Year day, foundation stone-laying ceremonies will be conducted, with Chief Minister Revanth Reddy aiming to complete the first phase of Moosi rejuvenation at the earliest, Secretariat sources said. As part of the project, the government has accelerated the land acquisition process. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has expressed willingness to extend financial assistance. Plans include developing commercial complexes and walking tracks along the river, while ensuring the continuous flow of clean water in the Moosi. However, the first phase will be limited to just 9 kilometres. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be ready by the end of January.

Key highlights of Phase-1:
A world’s tallest Mahatma Gandhi statue will be installed at Bapu Ghat, Langer House, along with a museum showcasing Gandhiji’s teachings
Places of worship representing various religions will be developed
A protective road will be constructed along the river for security purposes
For this phase, around 250 acres of land will be acquired from the Defence Ministry. CM Revanth Reddy is in discussions with the Centre regarding this. Once the government submits its official proposal to the bank, loan approval is expected in February, paving the way for work commencement in March, sources said.
