Mir Alam bridge project crosses 40% piling milestone

Property Pulse

A new bridge across Mir Alam Lake is taking shape in South Hyderabad, with more than 40 per cent of piling work completed. The project is planned to connect the Bengaluru National Highway near Shastripuram with Chintalmet and create a new east-west connectivity link in the area. Construction has progressed on pile caps, pillars and pier caps, with additional machinery and manpower being deployed to accelerate the work. The project was initially proposed as a cable-stayed bridge and is expected to provide an alternative connection between the Bengaluru highway and Chintalmet, potentially easing pressure on existing routes.

The project also includes plans for the rejuvenation and development of Mir Alam Lake and its surroundings. Two islands are proposed within the lake as part of the broader development, which could add recreational and tourism-related uses to the area. Authorities are also focusing on improving the lake’s environmental condition. Measures include better utilisation of sewage treatment plants (STPs), improvements to drainage and pumping systems, and separating stormwater channels from sewage networks to prevent untreated sewage from entering the lake.

The bridge and associated lake development are expected to improve connectivity to Shastripuram, Chintalmet and surrounding areas while adding infrastructure around one of South Hyderabad’s prominent water bodies. With construction now moving beyond the piling stage, the project represents a combination of transport infrastructure and lake-area development. Its eventual impact will depend on the completion of the bridge, associated works and the planned measures to improve the lake and its surroundings.
