Katedan flyover gets green signal
Airport-bound corridor to receive major boost under H-CITI
Property Pulse
The Telangana government has approved a six-lane flyover from Katedan Junction to the Shamshabad Road via Mailardevpally, adding another major project to Hyderabad's growing urban mobility pipeline.
Estimated to cost ₹189.68 crore, the flyover will be executed under the Hyderabad City Innovative and Transformative Infrastructure (H-CITI) programme, which aims to improve connectivity and reduce congestion at critical traffic bottlenecks across the city.
The project assumes significance because it serves one of Hyderabad's important airport access corridors. Traffic volumes have increased considerably over the years due to industrial activity around Katedan, residential expansion in southern Hyderabad and growing passenger movement towards Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.
Officials say congestion at Katedan and Mailardevpally frequently affects travel times, particularly during peak hours. The proposed flyover is expected to provide smoother traffic movement while reducing delays for airport-bound commuters.
The project has completed the tendering process, with KNR Constructions emerging as the selected contractor following technical and financial evaluation.
The flyover also forms part of a larger infrastructure push under the H-CITI programme. Several projects, including works near KBR Park Junction, Fox Sagar Bridge and Gachibowli IIIT Junction, are at different stages of execution. Additional projects at Punjagutta NFCL Junction, Alwyn Colony and Rasoolpura are also progressing.
Urban planners note that Hyderabad's continued expansion requires sustained investment in transport infrastructure to keep pace with growing vehicle ownership and commuter movement. Airport corridors, in particular, have become increasingly important as residential and commercial development spreads beyond the city's traditional core.
Once completed, the Katedan-Shamshabad flyover is expected to improve connectivity for residents of Bahadurpura, Falaknuma, Chandrayangutta, Santoshnagar, Saidabad, IS Sadan and surrounding localities, while strengthening access to the airport corridor.
