CMC Steps Up Efforts to Promote Reuse, Recycling of Discarded Furniture

Discarded furniture is being given a second life as the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) steps up efforts to promote responsible furniture waste management across the city by encouraging residents, residential communities, commercial establishments and institutions to reuse, refurbish and recycle old furniture instead of sending it to landfills. 

The initiative aims to reduce furniture waste, conserve resources and strengthen the circular economy by extending the lifecycle of usable furniture through scientific disposal and recycling practices. 

As part of the campaign, CMC has recognised IKEA India for supporting sustainable furniture management through its Buy Back & Reshop Programme, which enables customers to return eligible pre-owned furniture for inspection and resale. The programme helps extend the usability of products while reducing the amount of furniture waste reaching landfills. 

CMC Commissioner G. Srijana said collaborations between public institutions and responsible private organisations play an important role in promoting sustainable resource utilisation and reducing waste generation across Cyberabad. She added that such initiatives can create greater awareness among citizens and encourage communities to adopt responsible waste management practices.

The civic body urged residents, residential communities and businesses to adopt responsible furniture disposal practices and support efforts to create a cleaner, greener and more sustainable urban environment across Cyberabad.
