CMC Directs Sewage Diversion to STP, Aerator Installation to Protect Durgam Cheruvu

The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) has directed immediate measures to prevent sewage from entering Durgam Cheruvu, with officials asked to divert the inflow to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and restore damaged sewer infrastructure as part of efforts to improve the lake's water quality.

The directions were issued after CMC Commissioner G. Srijana, along with senior officials from CMC and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), inspected the Durgam Cheruvu Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and the Interception and Diversion (I&D) system to review sewage inflows into the lake.

During the inspection, the Commissioner instructed officials to close the vents carrying sewage into the lake and divert the flow to the STP. Raheja was also directed to install aerators at the I&D structure to improve water quality.

Officials were further asked to restore the sewer line damaged during the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) box drain works and take up permanent diversion pipelines to prevent sewage from entering the lake in the future.

The Commissioner also directed HMWSSB officials to examine sewage inflows originating from the T-Hub and TGIIC layout area and implement corrective measures to address the issue.

To ensure the works are completed on time, the Commissioner said she would revisit the site to review the progress of the works and the action taken
