Six-Lane Expressway Planned**
Earlier planned by the BRS
But never implemented
The same proposal gets a fresh push

To address growing traffic congestion in Greater Hyderabad, the Telangana government is preparing new infrastructure plans. In view of the rapid increase in vehicles and traffic bottlenecks, the government is reportedly planning the construction of a new six-lane expressway.

The proposal involves building a massive flyover spanning nearly 10 kilometres, from Banjara Hills Road No.12 to Shilpa Layout in Gachibowli. Notably, a similar plan was earlier prepared during the BRS government’s tenure, but it did not materialise at that time.

Key areas such as Banjara Hills, Film Nagar, and the KBR Park surroundings witness heavy traffic jams on a daily basis. To ease this situation, the state government has come up with a focused plan. Officials indicate that the six-lane expressway directly connecting to the Cyberabad IT Corridor has been taken up as a priority.

Once completed, the expressway will enable signal-free, fast, and uninterrupted travel, similar to the PV Narasimha Rao Expressway. This is expected to be a major relief, especially for employees working in the IT corridor. Officials have proposed the construction of a steel bridge stretching about 6 to 7 kilometres along the Banjara Hills Road No.12–Gachibowli Shilpa Layout stretch. Underpasses are also being considered in traffic-heavy zones. Detailed studies are underway to assess where flyovers are required and where road widening is feasible.

The new route will cover Banjara Hills Road No.12, Film Nagar, Judges Colony, Durgam Cheruvu, T-Hub, Gachibowli Junction, and the Shilpa Layout Flyover. Once completed, commuters will be able to travel from the core city to the IT hub without traffic disruptions.

Survey work for the project has been entrusted to a consultancy firm. A special team is conducting field-level inspections covering road conditions, land acquisition, and design modifications. A comprehensive report is expected to be submitted to the government soon. There is little doubt that this expressway, once completed, will mark a major milestone in Hyderabad’s road infrastructure.
