MMC Plans Swachh Badis, Modern Public Toilets; Intensifies Waste Management, 24x7 Pothole Filling

Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation is stepping up efforts to improve urban infrastructure and public sanitation, with plans to establish Swachh Badis in every zone, roll out modern public toilets, strengthen solid waste management systems and keep roads pothole-free through a 24x7 filling programme as part of its Swachh Bharat Mission roadmap

Reviewing the progress of key civic initiatives, MMC Commissioner T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, directed engineering and sanitation officials to accelerate the implementation of projects aimed at improving cleanliness, waste processing and civic amenities across the municipal limits.

The Commissioner reviewed the progress of setting up one Swachh Badi in each zone and instructed officials to develop them as centres for environmentally friendly waste management and public awareness on sanitation. He also directed that the required infrastructure be completed at the earliest.

To improve public sanitation facilities, officials were asked to speed up the construction of Aspirational Public Toilets, ensuring they are completed within the stipulated timeline while meeting quality standards.

As part of environmental conservation efforts, the Commissioner ordered the expansion of Project Udvasana to the circle level. He directed officials to conduct the programme once every week in each circle and strengthen the collection, segregation and environmentally friendly recycling of sacred objects.

The review also covered the progress of Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs), Secondary Collection Transfer Points (SCTPs) and Integrated Solid Waste Management (SWM) infrastructure. The Commissioner instructed officials to expedite these projects to improve scientific waste processing, resource recovery and waste collection systems.

With the monsoon underway, the Commissioner also directed engineering officials to implement a 24x7 pothole-filling programme and submit daily status reports to ensure roads remain pothole-free.

Calling for coordinated efforts across departments, Vinay Krishna Reddy said the initiatives are aimed at building a cleaner, greener, safer and more sustainable Malkajgiri.
