The Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) has approved a new set of infrastructure and civic development works focused on improving drainage systems, road connectivity, public facilities and recreational infrastructure across its limits. The approvals were cleared during the Standing Committee meeting held at the MMC headquarters in Tarnaka, chaired by Jayesh Ranjan, Special Chief Secretary, MA&UD, alongside Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy.

The committee examined 13 agenda items covering core urban priorities, with a strong focus on stormwater management in flood-prone zones, expansion of civic infrastructure in growth corridors, and development of community and sports facilities in residential layouts.

Among the major decisions, the committee sanctioned Rs 5.3 crore for the construction of an Animal Birth Control (ABC) and Animal Care Centre at Jawaharnagar in Keesara Circle, aimed at improving animal welfare infrastructure and public safety management. An additional Rs 5.5 crore was approved for the construction of a new Keesara Circle office at Cheeriyal Village to strengthen administrative reach at the local level.

In the drainage segment, the corporation cleared multiple stormwater projects in Uppal Bhagayath Phase-1 and Phase-2. These include Rs 4 crore for construction of a stormwater drain from Irrigation Nala to Musi River via Road No.48, Rs 5.8 crore for construction of a drain from Road No.22 connecting Irrigation Nala to Musi River, Rs 3 crore for drain works in Road No.55, Rs 5 crore for construction of a drain from Uppal Bhagayath Kaman to Road No.44, and Rs 5.8 crore for drainage works from Road No.44 to Nala. The projects aim to strengthen stormwater management and reduce waterlogging risks in rapidly urbanising pockets.

A box drain project worth Rs 4 crore was also approved from Orchid Villa main gate to Kowkoor Main Road via Janapriya Apartments in Yapral, aimed at improving stormwater flow in densely populated residential zones.

To address growing infrastructure demand, the committee also approved Road Development Plans (RDPs) for two key stretches. The first covers Chilaka Nagar X Road to Boduppal Main Road, impacting 317 properties, while the second connects FCI Godowns Road in Chengicherla to Chintala Cheruvu, affecting 100 properties. These works are expected to improve connectivity across expanding residential and commercial clusters.

In addition, the committee cleared Rs 5.5 crore for the development of footpaths over stormwater drains across multiple roads in Uppal Bhagayath, improving pedestrian movement and better utilising existing drainage corridors.

A major recreational addition was also approved, with Rs 4.95 crore allocated for the construction of a multi-sports arena in Uppal Bhagayath Phase-I Layout, aimed at strengthening community-level sports infrastructure.

Following the approvals, Special Chief Secretary Jayesh Ranjan reviewed key ongoing initiatives, including land identification for the Waste to Wonder project, development of sports infrastructure, management of 141 waterlogging-prone areas, lake economy programmes, progress under the Layout Regularisation Scheme, implementation of CURE-1, construction and demolition waste management, revenue collection performance, post-special drive sanitation works, and citizen engagement through social media.

He directed officials to ensure time-bound execution with close coordination across engineering, planning and field teams, stressing integrated implementation of drainage, road and civic infrastructure works for long-term urban resilience and improved service delivery.
