Jubilee Hills Consumer Fined Rs 5,000 for Wasting Drinking Water

The action highlights the Board’s push to make potable water conservation a shared responsibility across Hyderabad’s residential and commercial properties.

A consumer in Jubilee Hills has been fined Rs 5,000 for wasting drinking water while cleaning a building premises, as the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) steps up action against the misuse of potable water.

Officials from the HMWSSB’s O&M Division-6 identified the violation at a building on Road No. 33, Jubilee Hills, during a field inspection. A notice was issued to the consumer, directing payment of the fine within seven days.

The action was taken under Sections 38 and 39 of the HMWSSB Act, 1989, which require consumers to use water judiciously and empower officials to inspect premises for water misuse.

The Water Board warned that repeat violations could lead to disconnection of drinking water and sewerage connections under Section 42, apart from further action.

The HMWSSB has urged residents and property owners not to use potable water for cleaning vehicles, roads or premises and to conserve drinking water.
