GHMC initiates consultant selection for ₹345-crsix-lane grade separator

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has initiated the process of appointing a Project Management Consultant (PMC) for a ₹345-crore grade separator connecting the Mailardevpally-Shamshabad Road with Katedan Junction, a key corridor leading to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport.

The project proposes a 2.08-km, six-lane, two-way grade separator, along with a three-lane one-way down ramp at Katedan Junction. Designed to ease congestion and improve traffic flow, the flyover is expected to reduce delays at busy intersections by enabling signal-free movement along one of South Hyderabad's busiest transport corridors.

The Mailardevpally-Katedan-Shamshabad stretch carries heavy airport-bound traffic besides freight vehicles serving the Katedan industrial area. Growing residential development in the surrounding areas has further increased traffic volumes, resulting in regular congestion during peak hours.

GHMC plans to complete the project within 24 months of the commencement of construction. The civic body expects the corridor to significantly improve travel efficiency between Hyderabad and the airport while strengthening connectivity to industrial, logistics and residential hubs in the southern part of the city.

The infrastructure project is also expected to improve the long-term prospects of the surrounding real estate market. Areas such as Shamshabad, Katedan, Mailardevpally, Rajendranagar, Upperpally and Falaknuma have witnessed steady residential and commercial growth, and improved road connectivity is likely to further enhance their attractiveness for homebuyers and businesses.

The proposed flyover complements other major infrastructure initiatives in South Hyderabad, including Future City, the Regional Ring Road (RRR) and the proposed Metro Rail expansion, all of which are expected to reshape the region's growth trajectory over the coming years.
