HMWSSB Steps Up Rain Preparedness, Tightens Measures to Prevent Water Contamination

Round-the-clock monitoring, chlorination checks and coordinated emergency response form the core of the city's rain contingency plan.

With heavy rainfall continuing in Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has stepped up precautionary measures, directing officials to closely monitor water supply, sewerage systems and flood-prone areas across the city.

HMWSSB Managing Director Ashok Reddy instructed officials to remain on high alert and ensure uninterrupted water and sewerage services during the ongoing rains. Field-level staff have been directed to monitor the situation round the clock and respond promptly to emergencies.

Emergency response teams have been asked to identify sewerage manholes that frequently overflow and take corrective measures. Officials were also instructed to closely monitor waterlogging-prone areas and address issues before they escalate.

The Managing Director directed officials to ensure contaminated water does not enter the drinking water supply by maintaining adequate chlorination levels. Additional vigilance has been ordered in flood-affected areas to prevent contamination of potable water.

Officials were also instructed to install warning boards near inundated manholes and deploy sewerage supervisors at deep manholes to prevent accidents. HMWSSB will coordinate with GHMC, HYDRAA and the Police Department to manage rain-related emergencies effectively.

Residents have been advised not to open manhole covers under any circumstances during the rains. The water board has asked citizens to contact its customer care helpline, 155313, for assistance or to report rain-related water supply and sewerage issues.
