HMWSSB Fines Banjara Hills Bridal Store Rs. 15,000 for Improper Wastewater Disposal

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) has imposed a Rs. 15,000 penalty on a bridal wear store in Banjara Hills for discharging sump cleaning wastewater onto a public road, leading to a drainage blockage and inconvenience to residents.

The action was taken against Aisha Rao Bridal Wear, operated by K. Swaroop Kumar Reddy, located in Venkateswara Colony, Road No. 10, Banjara Hills, after officials found that wastewater generated during sump cleaning had been released directly onto the road.

According to HMWSSB officials, the establishment had engaged a private agency to clean its sump. However, the wastewater from the operation was discharged onto the road instead of being disposed of through approved methods, resulting in a drainage choke that disrupted the system for nearly a day.

Following a complaint, Water Board officials inspected the site and seized the dewatering submersible pump used during the cleaning operation. The officials also levied a Rs. 15,000 fine on the establishment for violating Water Board regulations.

The store management and the private agency were instructed to ensure that wastewater generated during future sump cleaning activities is not released onto public roads and that all HMWSSB guidelines are followed.

Officials warned that stricter action would be taken against repeat offenders and made it clear that the Water Board will not tolerate practices that obstruct the drainage network or cause inconvenience to the public.
