To Reduce Traffic & Pollution, the Government Must Do This!
* Extend the metro around the ORR
* Restrict vehicles to ORR boundaries
* Create parking hubs around the ORR
* From there, allow entry into the city only via metro

The Telangana government is actively working on expanding Greater Hyderabad. In this process, the proposal to extend metro rail around the ORR has resurfaced. Currently, GHMC covers 650 sq km, but it will soon expand to 2,700 sq km. The government aims to develop all regions within the ORR as the Telangana Core Urban Region. Experts say that building a metro loop around the ORR will create excellent transport connectivity. As the city expands massively, restricting vehicles entering from national highways to the outskirts and connecting them to the metro will improve transportation. It will ensure faster, easier travel for locals and reduce traffic congestion and pollution on city roads.

The Congress government is moving ahead to significantly expand the metro network. In Phase-2, 5 corridors under Part-A, 3 corridors under Part-B are proposed — totalling 8 corridors and 163 km. The Revanth government has asked the Centre to approve the DPRs. Hyderabad ranks 5th in India for metro expansion after Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The goal is to reach No. 1.

In the previous BRS government, proposals were made to build metro routes from the ORR to the city under Phase-3 expansion. This includes routes from Shamshabad Junction to Tukkuguda, Bongulur, and Pedda Amberpet (40 km), Pedda Amberpet to Ghatkesar–Shamirpet–Medchal (45 km), Medchal to Dundigal–Patancheru (29 km), and Patancheru to Kokapet–Narsingi (22 km). In Phase-2 Part-B, a 40 km route from Shamshabad Airport to Bharat Future City via Pedda Golconda, Tukkuguda, and Raviryal is proposed. This will provide connectivity to 14 villages.
