NCAP Review Puts Focus on EV Charging Network as MMC Prepares Clean Air Action Plan

Strengthening clean air infrastructure and expanding electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities have emerged as key priorities for the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC), with officials directing departments to prepare the 2026-27 National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) Action Plan and identify strategic locations for EV charging stations across the corporation limits. 

During a review meeting on the implementation of the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) at the MMC office, Commissioner T. Vinay Krishna Reddy, along with senior officials, reviewed the progress of ongoing initiatives and identified priority measures to curb air pollution. He directed all participating departments to prepare and submit their 2026-27 Annual Action Plans within the stipulated timeline, while ensuring effective utilisation of funds, stronger inter-departmental coordination and timely implementation of approved measures in line with the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) guidelines.

As part of the clean mobility initiative, the Commissioner directed officials of the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) to identify suitable and strategically located sites for establishing EV charging stations across the MMC limits. The officials were asked to prepare a comprehensive action plan considering current requirements as well as future demand to support the growing adoption of electric vehicles.

The meeting also stressed the need for all stakeholder departments to work in coordination and adopt a scientific approach to strengthen air pollution mitigation efforts, protect public health and support sustainable urban development.

The review meeting was attended by Additional Commissioner (Sanitation) Raghu Prasad, Superintending Engineer (Transport) Srinivas Rao, Director (Urban Biodiversity) Sunanda, Chief Financial Advisor Venkateswara Rao, Chief Examiner of Accounts Venkateshwar Reddy, Deputy Executive Engineers (Electrical) of MMC, and officials from the Telangana State Pollution Control Board (TSPCB), Traffic Police Department, Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO), Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) and Environment Protection Training and Research Institute (EPTRI).
