MMC Considers Rs 97.50-Cr Road Project, Rs 60 Cr Lake Restoration
The civic body is reviewing a wider set of road, drainage, waterbody and public amenity works across Malkajgiri to strengthen urban infrastructure.
Road connectivity, drainage and lake restoration are set to receive a major push in Malkajgiri, with the municipal corporation’s Standing Committee considering proposals involving Rs 97.50 crore for road development and another Rs 60 crore for restoration of two major lakes.
The proposals were discussed at the 8th General Meeting of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC), with the Standing Committee meeting chaired by MA&UD Special Chief Secretary and MMC Special Officer Jayesh Ranjan, along with MMC Commissioner T. Vinay Krishna Reddy. Among the key proposals was Phase-I of a 36-metre-wide road from Patel Nagar STP to D-Mart under H-CITI funds for 2026-27. The project is aimed at improving connectivity along the stretch and supporting development in the surrounding areas.
The committee also considered administrative approval of Rs 20 crore for the restoration and comprehensive development of Chintal Cheruvu in Boduppal Circle and Rs 40 crore for Rampally Cheruvu in Ghatkesar Circle. The lake works are part of a wider focus on improving urban infrastructure and restoring water bodies within the corporation limits.
Drainage development was another key proposal discussed at the meeting. A proposal was considered to reconstruct the drainage system from Peddha Cheruvu (Kuntloor Tank) through Budhan Colony to Pasumamula Cheruvu, along with construction of new drains, the Nala Development Plan (NDP) and required land acquisition.
Another proposal under Phase-II of the Strategic Nala Development Programme (SNDP) involves construction of a stormwater drain from Nasin Cheruvu to Komativani Kunta, along with NDP approval and required land acquisition.
The meeting also considered Rs 4.95 crore for construction of a compound wall for ABC, C&D Waste, SCPT and BT Plant facilities in Nagaram Division, besides Rs 2.95 crore for construction of UGD from an open land parcel to an open nala.
For public amenities, the committee considered Rs 2.85 crore for development of a dog park at an open space in Sainikpuri. A proposal for a multipurpose outdoor sports complex at Bandabavi was also discussed.
The corporation also considered a proposal to constitute a Biodiversity Management Committee (BMC) to oversee conservation and sustainable use of biological resources, besides preparation and maintenance of the People's Biodiversity Register.
Other matters discussed included a Supplemental Agreement for the Fathullaguda C&D Processing Facility, relating to construction and demolition waste management. The committee also considered a Petfolk Grooming Pods pilot project at the proposed Pet Park in Sainikpuri. Other agenda items included MMC Control Room management and government land allocation for civic purposes.
