Hyderabad’s western and central road network is set for another major connectivity project, with HMDA moving a proposed 9-km elevated corridor from Banjara Hills Road No. 12 to Shilpa Layout towards the tender stage. The project is estimated to cost ₹1,656 crore and is intended to improve movement across one of the city’s heavily used urban corridors. The corridor will be implemented through a design-build-finance-operate-transfer model and is planned in two phases.

The first, about 5 km long, will connect Film Nagar with Shilpa Layout. The second, covering about 4 km, will link the Police Command and Control Centre near Banjara Hills Road No. 12 with Hakimpet Kunta. Six ramp locations are planned to provide access to and from the elevated corridor. The design is also expected to provide for future Metro requirements, allowing the infrastructure to accommodate possible mass-transit expansion.

The project is aimed at improving connectivity between Banjara Hills, Film Nagar and the western growth corridor. These areas have seen increasing residential and commercial activity, while traffic volumes have risen with the expansion of employment and institutional hubs. For the property market, improved road connectivity can increase accessibility and strengthen links between established residential areas and emerging employment centres.

However, the impact will depend on execution, ramp locations, traffic integration and the time taken to complete the project. With the tender process moving forward, the focus now shifts from planning to implementation. The corridor is expected to form part of Hyderabad’s wider effort to expand capacity on important east-west and west-bound urban routes while preparing for future transport requirements.
