Retail Leasing to Reach 9 Million Sq Ft in 2025
Retail leasing in India is set to reach 9 million sq ft in 2025 as mall and high-street demand rises, marking the strongest leasing year since the pandemic.
Alongside rising retail investments, retail leasing activity is also witnessing strong momentum across India. Demand for retail space in shopping malls across eight major cities is expected to rise by 15%, reaching 9 million square feet in 2025, according to a report by Cushman & Wakefield. In 2024, retail leasing across these cities stood at 7.8 million sq ft. High-street retail leasing is projected to touch 5.4 million sq ft in 2025, compared to 5.3 million sq ft in 2024. Leasing activity within shopping malls is expected to reach 3.8 million sq ft. The report notes that 2025 will record the highest retail leasing activity in a single year since the pandemic. Supply is expected to remain robust, with new Grade-A mall completions limited to 0.9 million sq ft this year, while 2026 deliveries could rise to 4.3 million sq ft.
