‘One-Day Plantation Drive’ to Be Held in Every 2 BHK Colony
MMC’s new drive brings a sharper focus on expanding greenery across 2 BHK communities while ensuring the long-term survival and upkeep of planted trees.
Every 2 BHK colony under the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation (MMC) will have a dedicated ‘One-Day Plantation Drive’ as the civic body steps up efforts to expand green cover and improve the maintenance of planted areas.
MMC Commissioner T. Vinay Krishna Reddy directed officials to organise plantation drives across residential communities, government and private educational institutions and public spaces during a review of the Vanamahotsavam and Urban Biodiversity departments.
The Commissioner stressed that ensuring the survival and maintenance of trees is as important as planting them. Officials were directed to regularly monitor avenue plantations, maintain records of the number and survival of plants and geo-tag plantation areas.
The MMC will also focus on improving the maintenance of planter boxes in public spaces. Empty planter boxes are to be identified and removed with the support of Town Planning officials, while existing boxes are to be developed and maintained.
Officials were further directed to ensure that Tot Lot areas within compounds have at least 10 per cent green cover. Existing plantations taken up by the MMC and other departments will also be reviewed, with soil filling and replacement of dried-up plants to be undertaken wherever required.
The Commissioner noted that payments for plantation-related works would be made only after completion in accordance with the approved estimates. He directed all departments to work in coordination to expand green cover and improve the upkeep of public spaces across the corporation.
