RWAs Seek Faster Civic Upgrades in Pragathi Nagar, Kukatpally
CMC's ward visits brought long-pending neighbourhood infrastructure and maintenance issues into focus.
Drainage overflows, waterlogging, poor street lighting, damaged roads and inadequate public amenities emerged as the key concerns raised by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and residents during the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation's (CMC) One Ward Every Day initiative. Civic officials have assured that the issues will be taken up on priority through coordinated action by the concerned departments.
As part of the initiative, the CMC Commissioner G Srijana, along with the Zonal Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner and departmental officials, visited Pragathi Nagar Ward in Nizampet Circle, Quthbullapur Zone, and Kukatpally Ward in Kukatpally Circle, Kukatpally Zone, to assess civic infrastructure and interact with residents.
In Pragathi Nagar, RWAs highlighted several civic issues, including poor maintenance of parks and public amenities, drainage and sewage overflows, waterlogging, inadequate street lighting, pothole repairs, road restoration, traffic safety, removal of encroachments, sanitation, mosquito control, stray dog management, burial ground infrastructure and the need for better public transport facilities.
Residents in Kukatpally sought improved street lighting, a permanent solution to underground drainage (UGD) overflow issues, measures to prevent water stagnation near schools, improved road safety around school zones and the development of Nalla Cheruvu with public amenities.
Following the interactions, the Commissioner inspected the identified locations and directed the concerned departments to address the issues without delay. Officials were instructed to coordinate with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), Traffic Police and HYDRAA wherever required to expedite the works and improve civic services in both wards.
The issues raised by RWAs reflect the growing civic challenges in rapidly expanding residential neighbourhoods, where residents are seeking faster improvements in basic infrastructure and public services alongside urban growth.
